NNA to contract its management services to the Illinois Press Association

The Illinois Press Association and National Newspaper Association have signed a letter of intent for the IPA to begin providing management services for the NNA.  The formal announcement was made jointly on Oct. 2 by the IPA and the NNA; the contract will begin January 1, 2016.

The NNA has nearly 2,400 member newspapers across the U.S. and has two offices, one in Washington DC and one in Columbia, Mo.  The Columbia office will be closed and those services will be relocated to the IPA office in Springfield.  The NNA will maintain a separate contract with Tonda Rush for postal issues, legal and legislative services from the Washington DC office.  The IPA has nearly 475 member newspapers throughout Illinois.

IPA Executive Director Dennis DeRossett said, “We are very pleased the NNA has chosen to partner with the IPA for management services.  The opportunity for synergies between the staff and resources of both organizations will strengthen each of us so that we can provide all members with the best possible services and support.”

DeRossett said the IPA board of directors was fully supportive of the IPA submitting a proposal for providing management services to NNA.  The proposal was submitted in July and the IPA was notified in early September by the NNA selection committee that it was a finalist.  The selection committee made its recommendation to the full NNA board at a meeting held Wednesday during the annual NNA convention in St. Charles. Mo.  The NNA board of directors unanimously approved entering into the contract for management services with the IPA.

While the contract will be effective on January 1, 2016, the transition will begin immediately.  Lynne Lance, former director of member relations for IPA who just recently relocated to Pensacola, Fla, will be the new director of membership and member services for NNA; she will work remotely from Pensacola.  Stan Schwartz, NNA’s long-time editor of the industry’s leading trade newspaper, Publishers’ Auxiliary, will join the IPA staff and remain in his current position. Other staffing and contract details will be made during the transition period, said DeRossett.
