Indiana joins Illinois' public notices platform

Indiana joins Illinois' public notices platform

Illinois’ public notice platform is now a collection of 19 states with the recent addition of Indiana. The Board of Directors of the Hoosier State Press Association voted unanimously to join the network of state press associations, and the transfer to the Illinois model is already underway.

“The Illinois platform preserves all of the fundamental principles underlying traditional public notice practices,” said Amelia Dieter McClure, executive director of the HSPA. “The notice must be published from an independent party, the publication must be archivable, the publication must be accessible, and the publication must be verifiable. The Illinois platform meets all those requirements and provides the most economical approach to a statewide public notice platform.”

Don Craven, president and CEO of the Illinois Press Association, is optimistic about the future of public notices for the newspaper industry.

“The addition of Indiana to the network of states which have adopted the Illinois platform demonstrates that the system developed by Ron Kline and his team is the right approach. Our platform is designed to provide one collection of all public notices in a state, at a very affordable cost to our newspaper members, and most importantly with no additional cost or convenience fees to the local governments we serve.”

“Significantly, the Illinois platform is designed to keep newspapers as important participants in the public notice process,” Dieter McClure said. “At a time when other models are being promoted in a manner which would eliminate newspapers from the process, the Illinois platform maintains the newspapers as that independent third party that acts as an important check on government notices.”

Ron Kline, chief technology officer for the IPA, is pleased that Indiana has joined with Illinois, and indicates that part of his presentation to the Indiana Board included a demonstration of a new public notice placement portal which will soon be made available to a network of states and newspaper companies.

“We are beta testing our new placement portal, PLACEPUBLICNOTICE.COM, which will allow newspapers and their customers to create, place in a publication and upload public notices to a statewide website, all in one portal. This new portal will provide a much more efficient method to create, place, pay for and upload notices, and we hope to go live with this program in the very near future,” Kline said.
