The Effingham Daily News in central Illinois seeks a sports reporter to join our award-winning coverage of 16 high schools. We're looking for someone passionate about covering high school sports. You must be able to efficiently juggle box scores, briefs, game stories and feature stories on tight deadlines. We write about basketball, football, baseball, softball, volleyball, track and field, and golf – so versatility is essential. You'll produce for print, digital and social media platforms. Familiarity with inDesign a plus. The job requires a self-starter with knowledge in all prep sports, a hunger for news and a willingness to search for stories and angles beyond the box scores. A bachelor's degree in journalism or communications required, plus experience covering sports. Internships or experience on a college newspaper will be considered.
