The Journal-Courier in Jacksonville, Illinois, is looking for a community-minded sports writer who can also take photos and shoot video as needed.
We cover some of the best small-school teams in the state, along with two Division III colleges, and a variety of sporting events and activities in central Illinois.
Jacksonville is a city of 19,000 people just minutes from the state capital and within a few hours' drive to places such as St. Louis and Chicago. The idea candidate will be someone able to come up with enterprise news and feature stories that go beyond the scheduled games and can also take compelling photos and sometimes shoot and edit video to accompany print copy. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field, be proficient in Associated Press style and proper grammar and display good interviewing skills. Recent college graduates will be considered. Time management and the ability to work under deadlines is a must.
