An award-winning, six-day daily, independent newspaper in Central Illinois is seeking an energetic person who loves sports to fill an immediate  opening in the newsroom. The ideal candidate has good writing skills, can meet deadlines, and works well with the public. Candidates should possess a basic knowledge of social media platforms, a basic understanding of photography, and a firm grasp of technology. Experience with video editing software is a plus.

Journalism degree preferred with experience and a background that shows excellent skills in sports reporting and editing of common - and not so common- sports. Knowledge of page design and production is also a plus.

The sports writer's job is a full-time position, consisting primarily of afternoon, evening, and weekend hours. Coverage includes all levels of local sporting events. The job goes beyond game coverage to include features, human interest stories, video projects, and editorials.
